accessibility statement

steady space is committed to providing accessible, inclusive, and equitable mental health services in line with the ethical and professional standards of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). This includes upholding principles of human rights, social justice, non-discrimination, and equitable access to mental health care.

I recognise that access to therapy is shaped by physical, sensory, cognitive, cultural, financial, and systemic factors, and that barriers can arise in many forms. Accessibility at steady space is approached as an ongoing, reflective process rather than a fixed outcome.

Accessibility is a continuing responsibility, and I regularly review and adapt my website, communication, and service delivery to reduce barriers and support diverse needs. I welcome and thank you for your feedback at any time.

communication accessibility.

People process information and communicate in different ways. In line with ethical obligations and person-centred practice, I aim to offer flexible communication approaches tailored to individual needs and preferences.

Adjustment considerations may include:

  • plain-language explanations

  • written summaries or follow-up information

  • slower pacing or additional processing time

  • visual supports

  • breaks during sessions

  • more structured or predictable communication where preferred

  • exploratory communication where preferred

  • adjustments for sensory, cognitive, or attentional needs

I am committed to adapting communication to support neurodivergent processing, disability access needs, and individual preferences where possible.

physical & sensory accessibility.

If you are attending sessions in person, you are welcome to contact me in advance to discuss any physical, sensory, or environmental access needs.

Reasonable adjustments may include:

  • seating preferences

  • lighting adjustments

  • adjustments to reduce sensory load

  • quiet and private waiting arrangements

  • alternative appointment times

  • support people or carers attending sessions

These commitments align with professional ethical standards and obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth) to provide reasonable accommodations where possible.

service accessibility.

Accessibility also includes how services are delivered and experienced. steady space aims to provide:

  • flexible appointment formats - both in-person and telehealth options

  • clear information about fees, processes, and expectations

  • trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming care

  • culturally responsive and respectful practice

  • flexibility around structure, pacing, and collaboration

  • support for carers, families, or support people where appropriate

Services are delivered with respect for individual circumstances, identities, and preferences, within professional and ethical boundaries.

language, culture & identity.

Accessibility includes cultural safety and respect for diverse identities. Clients are welcomed to:

  • bring cultural, spiritual, or community perspectives into sessions

  • request adjustments to support cultural or linguistic needs

  • involve family members, Elders, or community supports where appropriate

steady space commitments align with AASW guidelines on culturally responsive and inclusive practice.

digital accessibility.

The steady space website aims to follow recognised accessibility principles, including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1), to support people using:

  • screen readers

  • keyboard navigation

  • assistive technologies

  • alternative communication methods

  • different devices, browsers, and operating systems

While WCAG 2.1 compliance is not a legal requirement for private practices in Australia, steady space is committed to improving digital accessibility and aligning with recognised accessibility principles wherever possible.

If you encounter any digital barriers or accessibility issues while using this website, please contact me so that adjustments can be made where possible.

equity and financial accessibility.

I recognise that access to private therapeutic support is not equal for everyone.

Structural factors such as gender, culture, disability, sexuality, caring responsibilities, and systemic inequities within health and social systems mean that some people experience greater barriers to accessing care than others.

Standard fees reflect the cost of providing ethical, high-quality, and sustainable care in a private practice setting. To support accessibility, I reserve a limited number of reduced-fee sessions for people who:

  • Have a referral with a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan or GP Chronic Condition Management Plan, and

  • Are currently experiencing financial hardship, and

  • Hold a Pensioner Concession Card (Age Pension. Disability Support Pension, Carer Payment).

Reduced-fee sessions are limited, subject to availability, and offered for focused psychological support. All other policies, and terms and conditions apply. Availability is reviewed periodically. availability as at 1 Dec 2025.

If you believe this option may be appropriate for you, or someone you are referring - please contact me to enquire about availability and circumstances for referral.

feedback & continuous improvement.

Improving accessibility is an ongoing process of review and adjustment.

I welcome feedback, suggestions, or requests for adjustments at any time.

If you experience a barrier — digital, communication‑related, sensory, cultural, or procedural — please contact me so I can learn from your experience and engage in review and improvements to service accessibility and delivery.
